We're in the Home Stretch!

We only have a few weeks left in the semester. Students should be checking aeries to see if they are missing any assignments.
Science: Today we did a notebook check for the Lunar Cycle section. Students turned in their notebook tracker if all notes/assignments were complete. If they were note complete they are to go into Google Classroom and complete them by tomorrow. The test for Lunar Cycle is on Friday.

Math: Our schedule got slightly off track because of the day we had off due to the smoke from the fires. Therefore, we will not be having the math test this Friday, but next Wednesday instead. This gives a couple of more days to prepare. Ratios can be confusing, so students should be staying on top of their work and studies, as well as asking questions. They can ask to meet with me before or after school and during tutorial. We have been doing the homework during tutorial, so this is an opportunity to ask questions.

In today's daily bulletin:
Reminder Please bring your charged chromebooks to school EVERYDAY.

If you borrow a chromebook from the library for the day, it MUST be returned by 2:40 THAT SAME day!!!

Our Toys for Tots Drive with Officer Holcek CONTINUES! Please donate to help those less fortunate in our area!  Thank you to those that have already donated!!! Raffle tickets will be given to those that donate an new, unwrapped toy to the main office before Wednesday, December 19!

November 9th Update:

Chromebooks:

  • Please, please, please make sure that your child has a charged Chromebook each day. As soon as I say please take out your Chromebook, I have at least 4 or 5 students ask if they can charge theirs or go to the library to check one out. Every minute of class time is precious and we can not afford to have these interruptions. If a student is having trouble with their Chromebook, it should be brought to the library before school, at lunch, or after school. If a charger is lost or broken, it is the student's responsibility to replace it. Thank you!

Math:

  • I am allowing students to do "fix-ups" on the Cool downs for Unit 2. They can fix their mistake and explain why it was a mistake for a half point credit per problem. Students can do the fix-ups during tutorial or for homework and turn them in to the turn in box.
  • Upcoming schedule for math:
    • Nov. 13 - Lesson 10
    • Nov 14 - Lesson 11
    • Nov 15 - Lesson 12
    • Nov 16  - Lesson 13
    • November 19-23 Thanksgiving Break
    • Nov 26 - Lesson 14
    • Nov 27 - Lesson 15
    • Nov 28 - Lesson 16
    • Nov 29 - Lesson 17
    • Nov 30 - Test for Unit 2
Food Drive and Toy Donations:
    • It's that time of year again when we, at GVMS, do our best to support those in need!  We are currently collecting canned food for our Canned Food Drive and new, unwrapped toys for our Toy Drive with Officer Holecek!  Contests for the most cans donated are happening and those that bring in new, unwrapped toys to the office  are entered into a random drawing!  Thank  you for all of your generosity!!

November Is Here Already!

Progress Reports:  I sent an email home this week stating that all assignments are due today. Grades will be posted tomorrow for the 2nd progress report. This grade does not go on your child's official transcript. The report card grade in December is the official grade. All parents should have access to parent portal to check grades. These grades change daily. You can even sign up to receive a weekly email (or however often you like). Also, progress reports are no longer sent home. You will need to check aeries/parent portal under "grades".

Donor's Choose: Thank you to everyone who donated to our project! We are more than halfway to our goal. Press HERE for the link!

Halloween: Yesterday was fun for the students. They were able to participate in a scavenger hunt during 3rd period. It went well. Mrs. DeVries put this together, so we owe her a big THANK YOU!

Yearbooks: Many of you purchased yearbooks at 6th grade orientation. If you did not purchase one and would like to, you can click this button:  YEARBOOK
You can either enter the school name: Green Valley Middle School or enter our school code: 7927
Yearbooks are $40 with a free nameplate if ordered before the winter break in December.
After the winter break they are still $40, but no nameplate.

Important (On Mrs. Cherry's Blog)

Wow.  We have NEVER seen so many requests for short term Independent Study (IS) as we have this school year.  It is SO very important for our students to be in school, even if they get the work from their teacher.  The instruction that they loose is way too valuable.  PLEASE, parents and guardians, remember the policies for IS as outlined in our student agendawebpage, and welcome pamphlet:
  • GVMS must be given at least 5 school days advance notice prior to the request
  • IS must be at least 5 school days missed or more (weekends and holidays don't count)
  • IS will not be granted the first two weeks and the last two weeks of school
  • Please let us know if your student has an IEP as we must hold an additional meeting
  • All assignments are due the day that the student returns
  • IS may not be granted leading up to a long holiday week break (Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break)
