D102 Happenings

Progress Reports
Last Friday was the cutoff date for progress reports. You will receive a progress report in the mail. These are a snapshot of  how your child is doing at the this time. Grades change daily, so be sure to check parent portal, at least weekly, to get the most recent grade. The official report card is mailed home in December.

Module 1 Math Test
The Module 1 test was completed and sent home yesterday. On unit tests, I allow students to correct mistakes and they receive a half point if their fix-up is correct. Students must show their work (at all times) and explain why their original answer was incorrect.

M.A.P. Testing
M.A.P. stand for Measure of Academic Progress. Students take this test in the Fall, Winter, and Spring each year. We have completed the first assessment. I am sending home the score sheets with the RIT score for your child. There is a chart attached that tells you what the score means. Please keep it for your records.

MAP Growth uses the RIT (Rasch Unit) scale to help you measure and compare academic growth. Specifically, the scale measures levels in academic difficulty. The RIT scale extends equally across all grades, making it possible to compare a student's score at various points throughout his or her education.
A specific RIT score represents the difficulty level of questions that a student can answer correctly about half the time. That difficulty level is the point where a student is ready to learn, because he or she is between knowing and not knowing the answer.

Wheel Rotation
The last day of session 1 was today. Students who are in wheel will be attending a new class on Monday. Some students who need extra help in math or ELA will be in the ELA lab or math lab. Band is a year long class, so students may not move in or out of that class.

Room D102 News

Mrs. Perriatt and I have decided to do separate blogs. My new blog is here:
https://laffey6.blogspot.com/

General Information

  • Today was the last day to turn in Cookie Dough Orders, but they will accept them tomorrow if your child forgot to bring it in.
  • Its a good idea to check the Daily Bulletin. I'm including the link, but it is also on the homepage of   the Green Valley Middle School Website    Daily Bulletin
  • Student ID's need to be worn at all times.
  • Mindset phrase of the month: Never Ever Give UP

Grades
Everyone should now be checking grades weekly on Parent Portal. All students were signed up  in Mrs. Perriatt's class. Please ask your child to help you login. Students were to write the aeries login in their agendas.

Math Information:

  • Timed Tests - These are done every Friday (for now). They are corrected but do not count for a grade. These tests are meant to be practice and keep the students sharp. You may see a "0" in parent portal because they are not worth any points.
  • Daily 5 - Students do 5 problems each day as warm up. These 5 problems are corrected in class and then there is a quiz on Friday. The quiz problems are taken directly from the problems done in class, so students should study these on Thursday night and make sure they understand how to do all of them.
  • Spiral Math - Spiral math is taken for a grade, however, I do not always count all of the problems. So, if there are 36 problems, I may only count 25. This is because the some of the problems are new and I am not expecting students to get them right, at first. They do get bonus points for answers above the counted ones. Students may see 36 out of 25 on parent portal.
